Featured Artist - Mezzanine Floor
Mezanine Floor is a five-member melodic metal band from windy Port Elizabeth, originally started in the latter part of 2010. Since then the band has progressed cautiously, yet confidently.
“With five different and unique musical backgrounds, it’s difficult to put us into a specific alternative genre and in turn does not limit the band creatively.
The music that’s generated from the band is a powerful combination of old school metal and new age rock”, says lead guitarist, backup vocalist and song-writer Dylan van der Merwe.
After the launch of their debut album ‘Feed the Machine’ in September 2013 (recorded by John Dirker at Tanglewood Studios), the interest in the band grew considerably, being invited to perform at Wacken Battle 2014 and Winterfest 2015.
Dylan continues: “Afterwards we began working on our second album, which takes everyone on a story telling journey.
We believe that interest in our second album will launch the band to higher platforms with the aim to ultimately play on an international stage. The writing of this album was treated in a gentle manner with a lot of care and thought going into each piece. We are a dedicated band with a passion for creating special sounds.”
Although Dylan has a heavy hand in the writing process, the band works together in taking pieces they like and weaving them together so the song flows and grows until it becomes a churning torrent that takes the listener on an episodic journey.
Each piece is a story in itself, and goes on for as long as the band feels it should, or as long as they enjoy playing it, conventions be damned.
