Featured Artist - Gabrielle Portelli (Malta)
Gabrielle Portelli was born in 2001 on the island of Malta in Southern Europe. At the tender age of three she joined a choir and had her first television appearance. After attending a drama course her teacher thought it better to discuss Gabrielle’s particular voice timbre with her parents.

Moreover, later that same year, the school music teacher drew Gabrielle’s parents’ attention about the unique quality of their daughter’s voice. Thus, at the age of nine Gabrielle started taking individual voice lessons in the classical genre and competed in local singing competitions where she won first places and Grand Prix till the age of thirteen.

Gabrielle represented Malta abroad and won the best voice and overall performance award in Romania in 2013 and first place and third overall in Macedonia in 2011. In 2014 Gabrielle attended master classes sessions in Italy followed by a musical in the Italian language “Bugsy Malone.” She played various other roles in school musicals namely Fantine, Pocahontas, Giselle and Ms Hannigan.

During the summer of 2014 Gabrielle gave three live mini-concerts accompanied by the pianist on a German cruise liner while on holiday. Meanwhile she joined a classical singing choir where she performed in live concerts accompanied by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra backing tenor Joseph Calleja and soprano Hayley Westenra among other international artists.

In 2013, Gabrielle sang as a soloist with the Malta Youth Orchestra. In 2014 she was awarded by the ABRSM board of examinations for obtaining the Highest Distinction result in singing. Since then, she obtained Distinctions in music theory, piano and musical theatre.
Gabrielle’s repertoire is featured in Maltese, English, Italian, German, French, Spanish and Latin, some of which was also presented for her ABRSM voice exams. Gabrielle is a fluent speaker in Maltese, English, Italian and German.

Gabrielle performs regularly in towns with live bands and orchestras. In December 2015 she had her first experience in an oratorio. Her songs are featured regularly on www.channelradio.co.uk and Classique One Radio in Paris.

Summer 2016 has been a very special and important one in Gabrielle’s musical career as she was released by her PR Company, Swerrrd, as a solo artist in America with the song “Think of Me” which was given a rock opera genre. The song can be found on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.

This generated a ripple effect on Gabrielle’s uploads on Sound Cloud as she reached a global of 200K plays for her songs. Later she was released again with the Celtic cover “The Voice” and this time Gabrielle reached a total of 143K for the latter in a week.

On reaching almost 400K plays Gabrielle was being asked for plays on various radio stations around the globe. Moreover, various radio stations wanted to interview her namely in America, England and South Africa. This led to another stepping stone… a music video. Hence, this is her latest project in the pipeline. Passionate about opera, musical theatre and crossover, Gabrielle aspires to start performing in theatres as she pursues her studies at University and travel abroad.
